The Upton County Sheriff's Dept. is currently accepting applications for the position of Deputy Sheriff.

Salary:

Starting salary $38,000

BENEFITS

Upton County provides:

To employees at no cost. Dependents may be covered for only $30 per month with medical and dental insurance. All employees are covered by workers compensation for injuries sustained in the line of duty.

Upton County participates in the Texas District and County Retirement System (TDCRS). Employees contribute 7% of their salary and are vested in only Eight (8) years.

Upton County employees receive:

o 16 holidays per year
o 12 days sick leave per year
o 10 days vacation leave 1st 5 years, 15 days after 5 years of service

Minimum qualifications:

• Applicants must be licensed as a peace officer by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCLEOSE).
• United States citizen.
• No more than four moving traffic violations within the last five years.
• No convictions involving moral turpitude.
• A criminal history check and background investigation will be conducted.
• Other considerations include a stable work history, and prior law enforcement experience.
• General good health and normal hearing.

Applicants:

• Must pass a written examination
• Must appear for all requested examinations and interviews
• Must pass a psychological examination
• Must pass a polygraph examination, if requested
• Background investigations that will be conducted and must be acceptable include:
  • Criminal records
  • Driving records
  • Credit history
  • Employment history
• General background investigation with respect to references and others who can verify applicant conduct
• Review Board
• Physical Exam, and drug test
• Vision must be correctable to 20/20.
